The Vern's stockman visits Hereford House
Breed secretary David Deakin was pleased to welcome two special guests to Hereford House this week - Fred Klein the ex-stockman of Captain de Quincey’s famed Vern herd and his biographer Harry Hancock.
Romanian-born Fred fought for Germany in the Second World War before coming to Britain as a prisoner of war which eventually led to his position at the Vern where he worked for many years for Captain de Quincey as his herd manager.
After a chance meeting of Fred and Harry at the home of Tony and Barbara Norman, Harry went on to write the biography of 'Lucky Fred' Klein which is now available for purchase from Hereford House, as well as a number of other outlets.
If you would like a copy of Fred Klein’s biography ‘Fortune’s Buffets and Rewards’ please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The book is priced at £9.99 plus P and P.
