A fantastic show was had for the Hereford breed at this year’s Pembrokeshire County Show on Wednesday 19 August, with Herefords coming out on top in the interbreed competitions.

Breed and Interbreed Champion Bowendu 1 Babestation from Mr Euros Rees

Taking the Overall Interbreed Championship and Overall Hereford Breed Champion was Bowendu 1 Babestation, exhibited by Mr Euros Rees. Babestation is a two-year-old bull, born January 2024 and was purchased privately from Bowendu Herefords as an eleven-month-old calf. He is sired by Solpoll 1 Trailblazer, a joint Bull of the Year in 2023 which has been sold for 10,000 twice, having originally been bought privately from the McMordie family then selling again as a proven sire at the 2024 Designer Genes sale. Babestation’s dam is Dendor 1 Ruby 37th, a Gouldingpoll 1 Moonshine daughter who herself was bought from the Designer Genes sale in December 2021 for 10,200gns. With a jam-packed pedigree, it’s no wonder Bowendu 1 Babestation had a successful show.

Judge Colin Powell commented: “The cattle were a real credit to the exhibitors. My champion was everything I was looking for in a modern-day Hereford. He’s got scale, confirmation and good locomotion combined with all the breed characteristics making him a clear champion on the day.”

Taking the Reserve Breed Championship was Beca 1 Treasured Charm exhibited by Mr Joseph Twose. A January 2025 born heifer, Treasured Charm is sired by Hoghton View 1 Jackaroo, a Minlacowie Jubilant J123 son, an Australian sire that sold for a record-breaking $95,000, and his dam is Dendor 1 Anna Mary 30th. Beca 1 Treasured Charm is out of Beca 1 Treasured Wish, a Moeskaer Waterloo daughter.

Beca 1 Treasured Charm teamed up with her stable mate Beca 1 Jubilee Cariad winning the best pair of Hereford heifers and went on to win the Reserve Interbreed Pairs Competition.

Studdolph 1 Barbie 927 won first prize in the ‘Cow of any age’ class with her three-month-old bull calf Studdolph 1 Lawson, exhibited by TG, EI, & EN Thorne. Barbie 927 is a November 2023 born first calved heifer, sired by Alderville 1 Dover and out of Studdolph 1 Barbie 719, a Lowesmoor 1 Nasser daughter. Barbie 927 is no stranger to the show ring winning Reserve Breed Champion at Pembrokeshire Show last year and Senior Female Champion at Shrewsbury Calf Show in 2024.

Gaining another first prize from the same stable was Studdolph 1 Precious 1009 winning the ‘Heifer born on or after 1st September 2025’ class. Precious is a Gouldingpoll 1 Duncan daughter out of Studdolph 1 Precious 725, another Lowesmoor 1 Nasser daughter.

Winning the ‘Heifer born on or after 1st January 2024, with or without calf at foot’ class was Furzy 1 Jane, exhibited by Mr Richard Lewis. Furzy 1 Jane is sired by Rempstone 1 Vaccine, a Solpoll 1 Nobility son, and out of Porton House 1 Jane 2nd, a Dendor 1 Sherlock daughter who was Junior Female Champion at the Royal Welsh in 2022.

Moving into the bull classes, it was Sancler Cymro exhibited by Mr Rob Morgan who took first place in the ‘Bull born on or after 1st January 2025 to 31st August 2025’ class, beating four other entries. Cymro is a horned bull sired by Boycefield Artie, a Haven Stanley son, and is out of Sancler Oystermaid 5th by Boycefield Samson.

Glenvale 1 Larry, bred and exhibited by the Thorne family, took first prize in the ‘Bull born after 1st September 2025’ class. Larry is a Graceland 1 Silas son, a top priced bull selling at Dungannon in 2021, and his mother is Glenvale 1 Angela 853, a Vexour 1 Palmer daughter.
