Breed Champion Hallwood 1 Lady Jewel, bred & exhibited by R & RI Shaw.
At the Royal Cheshire County Show held at Knutsford on Tuesday 16 & Wednesday 17 June, it was the 2021-born cow Hallwood 1 Lady Jewel from Messrs R & RI Shaw, Ledsham, which topped the Hereford section under judge Mr D J Deaville, Derbyshire, before going on to be tapped forward as the Reserve Native Interbreed Champion, as well as the Reserve Exhibitor-bred Interbreed Champion as judged by Ms M Cormack, Shropshire.
Hallwood 1 Lady Jewel, a homebred offering from the Shaw’s long-established herd, is a daughter of the prolific AI sire Fabb 1 Northern Star and was shown with her November 2025-born bull calf Hallwood 1 Duke-of-Destiny at foot, sired by Hallwood 1 Allspice.
The reserve breed champion in the Hereford section was the senior heifer class winner Mairwen 1 Oyster Lass 4th from Mr Nigel Owens, Llanelli. Sired by Pepperstock 1 Watson and out of Rodbaston Oyster Lass 16th (X), this heifer was born in August 2024 and was also awarded the reserve female championship in the Hereford section.
In the bull standings, it was the April 2024-born Wythen 1 Blaze, bred and exhibited by Allen Massey of Wythenshawe Community Farm, Manchester, which rose to the top of the male championship just ahead of Simon Jones & Annika Harding’s junior bull Sandlow 1 Cajun Thunder, born in February 2025. The junior champion also came from the Wythen herd, the maiden heifer class winner Wythen 1 Chaos, born in April 2024 and sired by Maxstoke 1 Archie.
New breeders SJ & H Smith, Welshpool, saw success in the exhibitor-owned pairs class with two recent sale purchases: Pulham 1 Lucy 7th secured at the Designer Genes auction in December 2025, and Pepperstock 1 Blossom C1144 from the HCS Spring Show & Sale in February 2026.
