Normanton 1 Laertes was interbreed champion at the Royal Welsh Show 2016

There was much excitement around Welsh TV channel S4C’s beef champion of champions yesterday (20 July) as Normanton 1 Laertes took the reserve title.

Having won the Royal Welsh interbreed in Builth in 2016, and after doing the same at the Highland in the previous month, Laertes has been admired by Hereford enthusiasts and those from other breeds ever since.

Co-hosting the programme was Welsh council member Non Thorne of Studdolph Herefords who did a tremendous job of telling viewers of the qualities of our breed.

Taking 34.5 per cent of the public vote, the Hereford lost out to the Welsh-bred Limousin bull Rhonllwyn Vandal, which took the interbreed title in 2008.

S4C will be covering previous Royal Welsh Shows for the rest of the week.
